Youth Group

Date: November 17, 2019
Time: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Our Hebrew program went through some small changes this year that we think are going to make a huge impact on our program. First, we moved Hebrew through Movement to start in the 1st and 2nd grades. We hope to build the Hebrew auditory base of our students earlier in their time journey. Second, 5th and 6th grade students were moved into small groups (5–7 students) to learn Hebrew. In these small groups teachers are able to differentiate for the needs of the individual students. With these small changes, we will see a great impact on our students in building their Hebrew literacy.

Green Burial Program

Date: November 18, 2019
Time: 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Natural burial is a growing movement around the country, and it is a practice that has a long history in Jewish tradition. People are drawn to it for both environmental and spiritual reasons. Natural burial is done without embalming, with no concrete liner in the ground, and with a simple all-wood casket. Baltimore Hebrew Congregation is in the forefront on this issue, one of only a handful of Maryland cemeteries that are offering this option. Come learn more about this ancient and yet modern practice on Monday, November 18, 7 pm with Shelley Morhaim and David Zinner.

Shelley Morhaim is a board member of the Green Burial Association of Maryland, a nonprofit that works to educate about and support opportunities for natural burials in Maryland. David Zinner is the executive director of K’vod v’Nichum, a nonprofit with national membership that provides resources, education, and training along the Jewish end-of-life continuum.

Through tributes and song, the cantors, choirs, rabbis and ministers of his two congregations – Baltimore Hebrew Congregation and First Presbyterian Church of Howard County will inspire us to remember. This evening of music will bring together Jimmy’s original family and the family he gathered around himself as we remember him fondly and celebrate his true love, music.

In his honor, Baltimore Hebrew Congregation has established the Jimmy Galdieri Music Fund in support of congregational music needs. If you are a member and would like to donate, click here. If you are not a BHC member and would like to donate, click here.
