Movie Screening and Discussion

Date: January 14, 2018
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

In observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, BHC Justice and Jews United for Justice will sponsor a free screening and discussion of the award winning film “13th,” by Ava DuVerney, director of “Selma” on Sunday, January 14, 1-4 PM. The title of DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary refers to the 13th Amendment. A powerful film about the U.S. prison system and its relationship to our country’s legacy of slavery and racial inequality, “13th” has a potent mixture of archival footage and testimony from a dazzling array of activists, politicians, historians, and formerly incarcerated women and men. Discussion following the film will focus on action we can take in Maryland. A light lunch will be served and child care is available with advanced reservation by 1/10. RSVP: Nicki Barrett, Coordinator of Engagement and Programming, or 410-764-1587, ext. 246.
