Cantor Ellerin Installation Dinner
BHC has been buzzing with excitement about the arrival of Cantor Ben Ellerin. Members have been excited to share Summer Shabbat experiences, study with him, schmooze with him, and to be inspired on the High Holy Days. As we settle in to weekly services with our new cantor, we are thrilled to formally welcome Cantor Ellerin and his wife Lily to Baltimore and to BHC.
Shabbat Service, Friday November 30, 6:15 pm will provide a celebratory evening of music and welcome. The formal installation of Cantor Ellerin as BHC’s Cantor will be led by Cantor Benjie Ellen Schiller, Professor of Cantorial Arts at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music in New York. She is also Cantor of Bet Am Shalom Synagogue in White Plains, New York, with her husband, Rabbi Lester Bronstein. Her compositions include “Halleluhu,” a multi rhythmic setting of Psalm 150; “Lamdeini;” “U’kratem D’ror-Proclaim Liberty,” an American/Jewish response to 9/11, and various commissioned works for choirs, synagogues and interfaith liturgical groups. Cantor Schiller is a nationally respected cantor, and is Cantor Ellerin’s teacher and dear friend.
Dinner will follow the 6:15 pm Shabbat Service. The cost is $36 per person for adults, $25 for children 12 and under. RSVP by Monday, November 19. Don’t miss this special Shabbat, which will combine cantors, choirs, new and old melodies, and the spirit of Shabbat and celebration.
