New Years Music and Meaning Concert
This year’s gala New Year’s “Music and Meaning Concert” on Sunday, January 5, 3 pm will feature internationally-acclaimed violinist Timothy Schwarz along with pianist Daniel Weiser doing a very exciting program titled “An American Affair,” showcasing some of the great classical music written by American composers, including fantastic arrangements of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and Bernstein’s “West Side Story.” Also included will be music by African-American composer William Grant Still and the passionate works of Amy Beach.
Schwarz and Weiser, who met as graduate students while at Peabody Conservatory, won the 1996 U.S. Artistic Ambassador Competition which resulted in a two-month tour of the Middle East and Southeast Asia promoting our American music in countries such as Syria, Pakistan, Egypt, Thailand, Sri Lanka and more. They were described as “the most powerful musical ambassadors to have performed in the region” who performed with a “lyricism, passion, and incredible virtuosity.” Both men have performed in over 30 countries and continue to promote our American classical music across the world.
This concert series is generously sponsored by The Peggy and Yale Gordon Trust. Admission is free, and all are welcome. No tickets or RSVP required. Informal. Innovative. Inspiring.
