Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yankelowitz is the President and Dean of Valley Beit Midrash, Founder and President of Uri L’Tzedek, Founder and CEO of The Shamayim V’Aretz Institute, and Founder and President of YATOM: The Jewish Foster and Adoption Network.

Rabbi Yankelowitz’s writings have appeared in outlets as diverse as the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Guardian, and the Atlantic, among many other secular and religious publications. Rabbi Yankelowitz is a sought-after educator, social justice activist, and motivational speaker, as well as the author of eleven books on Jewish spirituality, social justice, and ethics. His most recent book, Pirkei Avot: A Social Justice Commentary, was published by CCAR Press in 2018.

Our Shabbat Service on Friday evening is a wonderful way to end the week and welcome Shabbat. All are welcome as we connect with our prayers and ponder a topical or spiritual sermon. Melodies are drawn from tradition, from our Reform Jewish heritage and from contemporary composers.

Our regular 10 AM Shabbat morning service is welcoming and meaningful to those who come regularly and those who attend for the first time. Shabbat Shelanu means Our Shabbat, and we endeavor to celebrate Shabbat together with communal reading, engaging melodies, and embracing one another.  The weekly Torah portion is both chanted and discussed at this service.

BHC Cares will host a STAY Shabbat (Shabbat That’s About You ) which allows us to come together and make our community more intimate through conversation and connection on Saturday March 21 after Shabbat Shelanu.
    
At the STAY Kiddush we will enjoy delicious food and wonderful conversation from our Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yankelowitz.
