Social Justice Expungent Clinic

Date: November 21, 2019
Time: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
BHC is partnering with the Jobs Opportunity Task Force (JOTF) to host an expungement clinic on November 21.

Because of the informal stigma and formal policies in hiring and housing, the impact of clinics like this one is huge. People with criminal records face obstacles in finding a job, finding housing, getting loans or even an education. As a result, a single mistake (or just being accused of making a mistake!) can remove all of the opportunities so many of us take for granted.

The Maryland Legislature has determined a host of charges that CAN be expunged, either after a person has completed time served, or in many cases, when they were charged but not convicted.

This one day will have a huge positive effect on the people served, their families, and our communities. The expungement clinic at BHC will provide free legal services to help men and women clear eligible offenses from their records, making it easier for them to get jobs, find housing, and live up to their full potential.

JOTF will bring dozens of lawyers to BHC on November 21. Members of the community who can benefit from expungement will come to the clinic, meet with a lawyer -- for free -- and leave with all of their paperwork (and sometimes the court fees) to be filed.

You can help. We need lots of volunteers to make this happen! People with legal knowledge / experience and people with social work training are needed, but you don't need a law or social work degree to help.

Please sign up here with your availability on Thursday, November 21. You'll receive an email with specific timing and instructions approximately 2 weeks before the clinic.
